How to Catch and Display Butterflies with Butterfly Plates

Catching Butterflies

Butterflies spawn naturally in the world and can be collected using the appropriate spawn eggs, such as Butterfly (Blood Glider) Spawn Egg, Butterfly (Giant Saturn) Spawn Egg, Butterfly (Mexican Shoemaker) Spawn Egg, Butterfly (Pink Glass) Spawn Egg, Butterfly (Priam's Birdwing) Spawn Egg, or Butterfly (Red Agrias) Spawn Egg. Once you have a butterfly, you need a place to mount it.

Mounting on Butterfly Plates

Craft or obtain a Butterfly Plate (Empty). This is the base block for all butterfly displays. Each butterfly species has a matching plate variant:

• Butterfly Plate (Blood-Red Glider Male)
• Butterfly Plate (Giant Saturn Male)
• Butterfly Plate (Mexican Shoemaker)
• Butterfly Plate (Pink Glasswing Male/Female)
• Butterfly Plate (Primu's Birdwing Male)
• Butterfly Plate (Red Agrias Male)

Place the empty plate, then apply the correct butterfly to it. The plate must match the species — a Red Agrias butterfly will not mount on a Giant Saturn plate. Once mounted, the plate displays the butterfly as a decorative wall or floor piece.

Tips

Keep one Butterfly Plate (Empty) on hand when exploring so you can mount a butterfly immediately after catching it. If you are unsure which plate you need, check the butterfly's name against the plate list before crafting.
