How to Build and Use a Basic Water Strainer Setup

Crafting the Strainer Base and Mesh

Start by crafting a Strainer Base. Place the Strainer Base in shallow water where you want to filter materials. You need a mesh to make the strainer functional. Craft String Mesh from string, or Iron Mesh from iron. Higher-tier meshes require more advanced materials: Obsidian Mesh and Reinforced variants exist for later progression.

Placing and Operating the Strainer

Place your chosen mesh on the Strainer Base to create a working strainer. Right-click the strainer to filter water. Each use consumes durability from the mesh and produces loot such as Worm, Super Worm, or other items depending on the mesh type. String Mesh is the entry-level option and breaks quickly. Iron Mesh lasts longer and yields better results. Obsidian Mesh is the most durable basic mesh.

Upgrading to Fisherman's and Survivalist's Strainers

Once you have basic materials, craft a Fisherman's Strainer or Survivalist's Strainer. These are standalone strainer blocks that do not require a separate Strainer Base. The Fisherman's Strainer focuses on fishing-related loot. The Survivalist's Strainer yields survival-oriented drops. Both can be upgraded further into Solid and Reinforced versions using additional materials. Reinforced Fisherman's Strainer and Reinforced Survivalist's Strainer are the top-tier variants with the best durability and loot tables. Place them in water and right-click to strain, just like the basic setup.
