Optimize Shadow Quality and Performance
Find Shadow Settings
Access the shader configuration menu in-game. Navigate to the shadows or lighting section where you'll find options controlling how realistic shadows appear.
Adjust Shadow Resolution and Distance
Shadow settings typically include:
- Shadow map resolution: Higher values create sharper, more detailed shadows but cost more performance
- Shadow distance: Controls how far from the player shadows are rendered
- Shadow softness: Determines how blurred or crisp shadow edges appear
For cinematic quality, increase softness to create natural-looking penumbra (soft shadow edges). Reduce shadow distance if you're experiencing frame rate drops—distant shadows are less noticeable anyway.
Balance Quality and FPS
Start with medium settings and gradually increase resolution until you notice performance impact. Most players find a good balance by keeping shadow distance moderate and shadow softness enabled. Test in different biomes, as dense forests with many trees will stress shadow rendering more than open plains.
