Adjust God Ray Intensity and Appearance
Access Shader Settings
Open your in-game settings menu while playing. Look for shader options—these appear differently depending on whether you're using Iris or OptiFine, but both provide access to shader customization.
Customize Volumetric Lighting
Locate the volumetric or god ray settings panel. Here you can adjust:
- Ray intensity: Controls how bright and visible the light beams appear as they stream through trees and terrain
- Ray density: Affects how thick or diffuse the god rays look
- Scattering amount: Changes how the light disperses through the atmosphere
Try reducing intensity if god rays overwhelm your scene, or increase it for more dramatic cinematic lighting during sunrise and sunset. These changes apply immediately, so you can see results in real-time.
Fine-Tune for Your Hardware
If performance drops when god rays are visible, lower the ray density or intensity. This preserves the visual effect while reducing the computational load. Test different combinations during different times of day, as the sun's position affects how prominent volumetric effects appear.
