Adjust Cel Shading Intensity and Shadow Steps

Access Shader Settings

Open the shader options menu while in-game. On OptiFine, press Shift + O then navigate to Shaders > Shader Options. On Iris, use the Iris configuration screen (usually accessible via a keybind or pause menu button).

Customize Shadow Appearance

Look for settings controlling shadow bands, shading steps, or cel levels. These control how many distinct shadow tiers appear on blocks—fewer steps create a bolder comic look, while more steps add subtlety. Adjust the slider and observe blocks in different lighting to find your preferred balance.

Fine-tune Color Saturation

Locate color intensity, saturation, or vibrancy sliders. Vivid Cel Lighting's stylized colors can be toned down for a more muted palette or pushed higher for maximum cartoon impact. Test changes in both bright sunlight and dim indoor torch light.

Save Your Configuration

Once satisfied, confirm your changes are saved. The shader will remember your preferences for future sessions. If you want to experiment further, most shader packs allow you to reset to defaults and start over.
