Reduce Lag While Keeping Visual Quality
Diagnose Performance Issues
Press F3 to open the debug screen and check your FPS. If it's below your target (typically 60+), the shader is likely the culprit. Open shader settings (Shift + O).
Disable or Lower Expensive Effects
Start by reducing these high-impact features:
- Bloom radius and strength: Smaller bloom halos use less GPU power
- Wind animation quality: Lower or disable grass and leaf sway
- Shadow quality: Reduce shadow map resolution if available
- Ambient occlusion: Disable or lower for faster rendering
Switch to a Lower Preset
If individual tweaks don't help enough, switch to the Medium or Potato preset. These are pre-optimized and often provide the best balance.
Test in Demanding Areas
Check FPS in complex scenes: dense forests, large water bodies, and areas with many light sources. If performance improves, your changes worked. If not, lower settings further or reduce your render distance in video settings.
