Adjust Shader Settings for Better Performance

Access Shader Options

Open the shader settings menu by pressing the designated key (usually found in your controls menu) while in-game, or access it through the Shader menu in your video settings.

Key Performance Tweaks

If you're experiencing frame rate drops on your medium-tier system:

  • Reduce shadow quality — Lower the shadow map resolution to improve FPS while maintaining the clean shadow aesthetic.
  • Disable or lower reflection detail — Turn down water and block surface reflection intensity if performance suffers.
  • Adjust ambient occlusion — Reduce the strength of depth shadows around blocks and terrain if needed.
  • Lower light update frequency — This prevents constant recalculation of lighting changes.

Finding Your Balance

Start by disabling advanced features one at a time and test performance in different environments (forests, open plains, caves). The shader is designed to run smoothly on medium hardware, so you shouldn't need extreme reductions. Most players find good results by keeping shadows and reflections enabled while tuning their intensity values.

Test your settings in both daytime and nighttime scenarios, as lighting calculations differ significantly.
