Optimize Shader Performance on Low-End Hardware
Reduce Shadow Distance
Open the shader settings menu (O key) and locate the shadow distance slider. Lowering this value significantly improves frame rates by rendering shadows only near your character. Experiment with lower values until you find a balance between visuals and performance.
Disable or Reduce Foliage Waving
Turn off plant waving entirely, or lower the wave intensity and speed sliders. Foliage animation, while subtle, still costs processing power on weak systems.
Lower Ambient Occlusion or Contact Shadows
If available in your shader version, reduce ambient occlusion quality or disable contact shadows. These effects add depth but demand more from your GPU.
Adjust Render Distance
While not a shader setting, reducing your world render distance in video settings works alongside the shader to maximize performance.
Monitor Frame Rate
Use F3 (or your debug screen) to check FPS while adjusting settings. Make one change at a time so you can identify which settings impact your performance most.
Test in Different Biomes
Performance varies by location. Test your settings in areas with dense foliage and complex lighting to ensure smooth gameplay everywhere.
