Connect to a Server Running an Older Minecraft Version
Check Your Client Version
Before connecting, verify you're running a newer version of Minecraft than the server. Via Version Plugin works by translating your newer client's data into a format the older server understands.
Join the Server
1. Open your server list and add the server address as you normally would
2. Attempt to connect—Via Version Plugin will automatically detect the version mismatch
3. The plugin will handle the translation layer without requiring manual configuration
4. You should now join successfully without version errors
Troubleshooting Connection Issues
If you still can't connect:
- Confirm the server actually has Via Version Plugin installed (ask the server owner)
- Check that your client version is newer than the server version—the plugin only works in this direction
- Verify your internet connection and firewall aren't blocking the server
- Try re-adding the server address if the connection times out
Some newer features or blocks from your client version may not display correctly on the older server, but you should still be able to play normally.
