Optimize VHS44 Performance on Low-End Computers
Lower Shader Intensity
Reduce bloom, distortion, and grain effects to their minimum acceptable levels. Even slight reductions significantly decrease GPU load while maintaining the VHS look.
Disable Advanced Features
Check shader options for toggles related to advanced bloom, chromatic aberration, or extra distortion passes. Disabling these effects preserves performance without removing the core retro aesthetic.
Adjust Render Distance
Pair shader optimization with reduced render distance. The VHS effect's fuzziness actually makes distant terrain less noticeable, so you can lower this setting more aggressively than with other shaders.
Reduce Texture Resolution
If your system struggles, use lower-resolution texture packs. The shader's grain and blur naturally obscure fine texture details, so high-resolution packs provide minimal visual benefit.
Monitor Frame Rate
Use F3 debug screen to watch your FPS while adjusting settings. Aim for consistent 30+ FPS on potato hardware. The VHS effect's motion blur actually masks minor frame rate fluctuations better than cleaner shaders.
