How to Get and Use Humus, Packed Dirt and Dried Mud

Building the soil chain

Start by finding Humus, Packed Dirt and Dried Mud in the world. These three blocks form the base of most Verdure ground decoration, so collect a stack of each before you build.

Place Humus where you want richer-looking ground. Place Packed Dirt for a flatter, more compact surface. Place Dried Mud for cracked, dry patches. Because all three are full blocks, you can stack them, terrace them, or bury them under partial blocks like Pebbles and Clover.

Mixing them into a scene

Use Humus as the top layer of a forest floor, then scatter Pebbles, Rock and Slate on top. Switch to Packed Dirt for paths and clearing edges, and use Dried Mud in dry or disturbed areas to break up the color.

If you want the ground to read as overgrown, cover the edges of Humus with Clover, Daisies, Blue Daisies, Pink Daisies and Wildflowers. Where the ground meets a wall or slope, add Wall Roots and Hanging Moss so the transition is not a hard line.

Keep a few of each block in your inventory while exploring. When you find a natural patch of Humus, Packed Dirt or Dried Mud, mine it and reuse the same palette nearby so new builds match the terrain.
