Adjust Shadow Intensity and Softness
Access Shader Settings
Open the shader options menu by pressing Shift + O while in-game, or navigate to Options > Video Settings > Shaders > Shader Options.
Modify Shadow Parameters
Look for shadow-related sliders in the options panel. You'll find controls for:
- Shadow Distance: Determines how far from the player shadows are rendered. Increase this to see shadows cast across larger areas, or decrease it to improve performance.
- Shadow Softness: Adjusts the blur and feathering of shadow edges. Higher values create softer, more diffuse shadows; lower values produce sharper, more defined shadows.
- Shadow Intensity: Controls how dark shadows appear. Reduce this if shadows feel too harsh, or increase it for more dramatic depth.
Apply and Test
Changes apply immediately. Walk around your build or explore caves to see how the new settings affect visibility and atmosphere. Shadows on blocks and entities should respond to your adjustments in real-time.
If performance drops, reduce shadow distance or softness first—these have the biggest impact on frame rate.
