Vanilla Plus Tools Recipe Basics: How Shaped Crafting Works for All 12 Tools
One Recipe Type, Twelve Tools
Every item in Vanilla Plus Tools is made with the crafting_shaped recipe type. There are no smelting, smithing, or special station recipes in this mod. That means a crafting table is the only station you need, and every recipe is laid out as a fixed pattern on the grid.
The twelve registered items split into two families:
- Hammers: Wooden Hammer, Stone Hammer, Iron Hammer, Gold Hammer, Diamond Hammer, Netherite Hammer
- Shovels: Wooden Shovel, Stone Shovel, Iron Shovel, Gold Shovel, Diamond Shovel, Netherite Shovel
Reading the Pattern
Shaped recipes care about where you place each ingredient, not just which ingredients you use. For Shovels, the head material goes at the top center and two sticks form the handle below it. For Hammers, the head material spreads across more of the top row, with sticks down the center for the handle.
Because the shape is fixed per tool family, upgrading is simple: keep the layout, swap the head material. Wooden planks become cobblestone, then iron ingots, then gold ingots, then diamonds, then netherite ingots.
If a craft fails, check that your head material is in the correct slots and that your sticks are in the center column. Move ingredients one slot at a time until the output appears in the result box.
