Crafting Every Shovel Tier in Vanilla Plus Tools

Shovel Recipes by Material

Vanilla Plus Tools registers six Shovel items: Wooden Shovel, Stone Shovel, Iron Shovel, Gold Shovel, Diamond Shovel, and Netherite Shovel. Every one is produced with a crafting_shaped recipe, so the grid layout is the same across tiers and only the head material changes.

The standard shovel shape uses one head material at the top center of the grid and two sticks directly below it in the center column. Apply that shape with:

• Wooden planks for the Wooden Shovel
• Cobblestone for the Stone Shovel
• Iron ingots for the Iron Shovel
• Gold ingots for the Gold Shovel
• Diamonds for the Diamond Shovel
• Netherite ingots for the Netherite Shovel

Choosing Which Shovel to Carry

Carry the Wooden Shovel or Stone Shovel early when you are clearing terrain near a new base and do not want to risk better materials. Move to the Iron Shovel once you have a steady iron supply, since it lasts noticeably longer for digging projects.

Gold Shovel is a separate craft from Iron Shovel, so make it if you have surplus gold and want a distinct tool in your kit. Diamond Shovel and Netherite Shovel are the durable options for long digging sessions. Because all six use the same recipe shape, you can craft a replacement at any tier without relearning the grid.
