Upgrading Your Hammer Through the Tier Progression

The Tier Order

The hammers form a clear progression from cheapest to strongest:

1. Wooden Hammer

2. Stone Hammer

3. Golden Hammer

4. Iron Hammer

5. Diamond Hammer

6. Netherite Hammer

Each step uses the same shaped recipe pattern, swapping the head material. Wooden uses planks, Stone uses cobblestone, Golden uses gold ingots, Iron uses iron ingots, Diamond uses diamonds, and Netherite uses netherite.

When to Upgrade

Upgrade when your current hammer's durability runs out faster than you can mine. The Wooden Hammer breaks quickly, so move to Stone as soon as you have cobblestone. Iron is the first tier that lasts through a full mining trip. Diamond and Netherite are for long sessions and deep expeditions.

Side Tiers

Beyond the main line, the mod includes material-specific hammers that do not replace the tier order but cover special blocks: Bone Hammer, Coal Hammer, Emerald Hammer, Ender Hammer, Fiery Hammer, Glowstone Hammer, Lapis Hammer, Nether Hammer, Obsidian Hammer, Paper Hammer, Prismarine Hammer, Quartz Hammer, Redstone Hammer, and Slime Hammer.

Practical Progression

Start with Wooden, mine stone, craft Stone. Mine iron, craft Iron. Once you have diamonds, craft the Diamond Hammer and keep the Iron Hammer as a backup. Save netherite for the Netherite Hammer once you have ancient debris and smithing materials. Keep one material-specific hammer in your hotbar for the biome you are working in.
