How to Become a Vampire

Getting Bitten

You cannot craft your way into vampirism. You need to be infected by a vampire. Let a hostile vampire hit you until you receive the infection effect, then wait for it to run its course. Once the effect finishes, you are a vampire and the night becomes your working hours.

Surviving the First Night

As a vampire you burn in sunlight, so plan your first day carefully. Stay underground or under cover until dusk. Feed to keep your blood level up — a low blood level weakens you and eventually kills you. Keep a Blood Bottle on hand so you always have something to drink when feeding on a mob is not practical.

Setting Up a Base

Build a sheltered area with a Black Coffin to sleep and respawn safely away from the sun. Place a Blood Pedestal to store and manage blood, and a Blood Container for bulk storage. A Blood Grinder lets you extract blood from captured mobs instead of hunting every night.

Useful Early Items

Craft a Basic Crossbow for ranged feeding and defense. A Garlic Finder helps you locate the garlic that hunters and villagers use against you, so you can avoid or destroy it. A Bat Cage gives you a place to keep bats, which are useful for your vampire abilities.
