How to Control Cart Speed with High Speed and Speed Clamp Rails

Speeding Up a Line

Place High Speed Rail (5 Blocks/Tick) on stretches where you want carts to travel fast. These blocks push carts at a much higher rate than normal rail, so use them on long straight sections between stations. Avoid placing them right next to a Buffer Stop unless you also add braking track.

Slowing Down Before Stops

Place Speed Clamp Rail (0.25 Blocks/Tick) on the approach to any station, Buffer Stop, or sharp turn. These blocks reduce cart speed so arrivals are controlled and carts do not overshoot the platform. A few blocks of Speed Clamp Rail before a Buffer Stop is usually enough to bring a fast cart to a stop.

Mixing the Two

A practical pattern is High Speed Rail for the middle of the route and Speed Clamp Rail near each end. This gives you fast travel with safe stops. If a cart still overshoots, extend the Speed Clamp Rail section. If it feels too slow, shorten it and add more High Speed Rail in the middle.

Testing

Run a cart from one end to the other and watch where it accelerates and decelerates. Adjust the length of each speed section until the ride feels right for your route.
