Use TNT Safely Underground Without Triggering Collapses
Prevent Explosive Cave-Ins
When you ignite TNT near a cave ceiling, the explosion can trigger massive rockfalls that destroy your mine and trap you. To prevent this, place any trapdoor directly on top of the TNT block before lighting it. The trapdoor absorbs the collapse trigger and lets the TNT explode without causing a cave-in.
Mining with Controlled Explosions
This technique is useful for clearing large areas or breaking through stone quickly. Place your TNT, add the trapdoor, ignite it, and the explosion clears blocks without destabilizing the ceiling. You can mine more efficiently than pickaxe work alone.
Expose Hidden Ores
Massive cave collapses (when they do occur) often expose hidden ore veins along freshly exposed walls. If you want to trigger a controlled collapse for ore hunting, skip the trapdoor—but only in areas where a collapse won't trap you or destroy important structures.
