Mining Giant Ore Deposits Efficiently
Preparing Your Tools
Giant deposits contain massive amounts of ore, so bring appropriate equipment:
- A pickaxe suited to the ore type (iron or better for most ores; diamond for ancient debris)
- Multiple pickaxes or repair materials, as you'll be mining for a while
- A Fortune-enchanted pickaxe to maximize ore drops
- Torches and lighting to navigate safely
Mining Strategy
Approach the deposit systematically rather than randomly breaking blocks:
1. Clear the perimeter first — Mine around the outside of the cluster to expose its full shape
2. Work inward — Break blocks toward the center, where solid ore blocks often sit
3. Use efficiency enchantments — Unbreaking and Efficiency reduce tool wear and speed up mining
4. Collect drops carefully — With Fortune, a single ore block yields multiple items; bring adequate inventory space or a hopper system
Safety Considerations
Large cavities around deposits can hide lava, water, or hostile mobs. Mine cautiously, light your surroundings, and watch for falling blocks or sudden drops.
