Finding Your First Giant Ore Deposit
Locating Deposits Underground
Giant ore deposits spawn throughout your world, but finding them requires exploring deep. Head down to the lower levels of the Overworld—the deeper you go, the more likely you'll encounter massive clusters.
Search Strategy:
- Mine downward in a staircase pattern or use a mine shaft to reach Y-levels where ore spawns
- Look for unusually large concentrations of a single ore type embedded in deepslate
- Deposits often form in caverns and open spaces, so explore cave systems thoroughly
- Listen for cave ambience and water sounds—deposits frequently appear near natural cavities
Identifying What You've Found
When you spot a giant cluster, you'll see blocks of the same ore type grouped densely together, sometimes surrounding a solid ore block at the center. This is very different from scattered individual ore blocks.
Common deposits to expect:
- Diamond and redstone in the deepest layers
- Gold, lapis, and emerald at mid-to-lower depths
- Ancient debris exclusively in the Nether
Once you've found one deposit, similar formations often cluster in the same region, so mark the location and continue exploring nearby.
