How to Find and Mine Andesite, Basalt, and Black Granite

Locating the stone types

Andesite, Basalt, and Black Granite replace ordinary stone in the underground. Dig below the surface and watch the walls: each biome-style region is made of one stone type, and the boundaries between them are where you switch from one to the next. Andesite regions also contain Andesite Cobblestone, Andesite Mossy Cobblestone, and Andesite Overgrown Stone. Basalt regions contain Basalt Cobblestone, Basalt Mossy Cobblestone, and Basalt Overgrown Stone. Black Granite regions contain Black Granite Cobblestone, Black Granite Mossy Cobblestone, and Black Granite Overgrown Stone.

Mining the ores

Every stone type hosts its own ore variants. In an Andesite region you will find Andesite Coal Ore, Andesite Copper Ore, Andesite Iron Ore, Andesite Gold Ore, Andesite Redstone Ore, Andesite Lapis Ore, Andesite Diamond Ore, and Andesite Emerald Ore. Basalt regions hold Basalt Coal Ore, Basalt Copper Ore, Basalt Iron Ore, Basalt Gold Ore, Basalt Redstone Ore, Basalt Lapis Ore, Basalt Diamond Ore, and Basalt Emerald Ore. Black Granite regions hold Black Granite Coal Ore, Black Granite Copper Ore, Black Granite Iron Ore, Black Granite Gold Ore, Black Granite Redstone Ore, Black Granite Lapis Ore, Black Granite Diamond Ore, and Black Granite Emerald Ore. Mine these with the same pickaxe tier you would use on the vanilla equivalent. Watch for Andesite Infested Stone, Basalt Infested Stone, and Black Granite Infested Stone — they look like plain stone of their type but spawn silverfish when broken.
