Crafting Bricks, Slabs, Stairs, and Walls from Underground Stone

Turning raw stone into bricks

Each stone family has a brick block: Andesite Bricks, Basalt Bricks, and Black Granite Bricks. Craft them from the matching Cobblestone variant — Andesite Cobblestone, Basalt Cobblestone, or Black Granite Cobblestone — using a crafting table. Once you have the brick block, you can cut it into Andesite Brick Slab, Andesite Brick Stairs, and Andesite Brick Wall, or the Basalt and Black Granite equivalents.

Plain stone shapes

You are not limited to bricks. Plain Andesite, Basalt, and Black Granite each have their own Slab, Stairs, and Wall blocks. The Cobblestone variants also have full shape sets: Andesite Cobblestone Slab, Andesite Cobblestone Stairs, Andesite Cobblestone Wall, plus the Basalt and Black Granite versions. Buttons are available too — Andesite Button, Basalt Button, Black Granite Button, and the cobblestone buttons Andesite Cobblestone Button, Basalt Cobblestone Button, and Black Granite Cobblestone Button.

Using the stonecutter

Most of these shape conversions are stonecutting recipes. Put the base block (stone, cobblestone, or bricks) into a stonecutter and pick the slab, stair, wall, or button output you want. This is faster than crafting-table grids when you need many pieces. Smelting is also available for some conversions, so if you have a furnace running anyway, check whether your target block can be produced there before setting up a crafting grid.
