Optimize Shader Performance on Lower-End Hardware
Reduce Shadow Quality
Open shader settings and lower shadow map resolution or shadow distance. This is typically the most performance-intensive setting. Reducing it from maximum can double your frame rate on weaker systems while maintaining the fantasy aesthetic.
Disable or Lower Ambient Occlusion
Look for ambient occlusion (AO) or contact shadows in the settings. Disabling or reducing this effect removes subtle darkening around block edges, freeing up GPU resources without drastically changing appearance.
Lower Reflection and Water Quality
Water reflections and screen-space reflections are expensive. Reduce reflection quality or disable reflections entirely. Water will still look good but render faster.
Adjust Draw Distance
Reduce your render distance in Minecraft's video settings (separate from shader settings). This is often more impactful than shader tweaks alone.
Test Incrementally
Change one setting at a time and play for a few minutes to feel the performance difference. This helps you find the sweet spot between fantasy visuals and playable frame rates on your hardware.
