Troubleshooting Frame Rate Drops with UltraLow Shaders
Identifying Performance Bottlenecks
Even on a potato PC, UltraLow Shaders should maintain stable frame rates. If you experience stuttering or lag, the issue is usually shader settings conflicting with your hardware limits, not the mod itself.
Steps to Restore Performance
First, check your render distance—reduce it to 8 chunks or lower. Render distance has the biggest impact on frame rate with any shader. Next, open Shader Options and lower shadow distance and shadow softness; these are the most demanding visual features.
Disable any advanced lighting options if available—ambient occlusion and contact shadows can tax older systems. Ensure your video settings are set to Fast or Fancy (not Ultra), and turn off clouds if needed.
Close background applications consuming RAM or CPU. Even modest programs can bottleneck a potato PC running shaders. If frame rate remains poor, temporarily disable the shader to confirm it's the cause, then re-enable and test each setting individually.
UltraLow is designed for stability, so persistent lag usually means your system is near its absolute limit—in that case, prioritize shadow distance reduction over visual quality.
