Using Tanks, Hoses, and Smithing Upgrades on a Traveler's Backpack

Fluid storage

Fluid handling uses four items: Backpack Tank, Tanks Upgrade, Hose, and Hose Nozzle. Install a Tanks Upgrade with the travelersbackpack:backpack_upgrade recipe type to add tank capacity. Fill or drain the backpack using the Hose, and attach the Hose Nozzle to the Hose to direct the flow. The Backpack Tank is the container item used for the fluid itself.

Smithing transforms

Two recipes use the smithing_transform type. These convert a backpack into a higher-tier variant using a smithing table, in the same way vanilla netherite gear is upgraded. Bring the base backpack, the tier upgrade item, and the smithing template to a smithing table and apply the transform. The tier upgrade items are §7Iron Tier Upgrade, §6Gold Tier Upgrade, §bDiamond Tier Upgrade, and §8Netherite Tier Upgrade. Apply them in that order — Iron first, then Gold, then Diamond, then Netherite.

Shapeless and shaped recipes

Most other backpack-related recipes use crafting_shaped or crafting_shapeless. Shaped recipes place ingredients in a fixed pattern on the crafting grid; shapeless recipes accept the ingredients in any arrangement. If a recipe will not craft, check whether it is shaped — the pattern matters. Sleeping bag recolors use crafting_dye, so any sleeping bag plus the target dye produces the matching color.
