How to Open and Use the Traveler's Backpack Inventory

Opening the backpack

Press <Ctrl> to View Inventory. This opens the backpack's storage grid wherever you are, without placing the backpack in the world. Items you store stay inside the backpack and travel with you.

Placing the backpack as a block

The Traveler's Backpack can also be placed in the world as a block. Once placed, it holds its contents and upgrades. Shift click on a placed backpack to reset it to the leather tier – all items and upgrades will be dropped around it. Use this only when you want to strip the backpack back down, because everything inside spills out.

Attaching a sleeping bag

Shift + Right-Click on a placed backpack to attach or swap the sleeping bag. Sleeping bags come in Black Sleeping bag, Blue Sleeping bag, Brown Sleeping bag, Cyan Sleeping bag, Gray Sleeping bag, Green Sleeping bag, Light Blue Sleeping bag, Light Gray Sleeping bag, Lime Sleeping bag, Magenta Sleeping bag, Orange Sleeping bag, Pink Sleeping bag, Purple Sleeping bag, Red Sleeping bag, White Sleeping bag and Yellow Sleeping bag. Attaching one gives the placed backpack a bed-style use.

Adding upgrades

The upgrade can be applied by placing it in a slot on the right side of the backpack inventory. Open the backpack with <Ctrl> to View Inventory, then drop the upgrade into the right-side slot. Upgrades such as Crafting Upgrade, Furnace Upgrade, Blast Furnace Upgrade, Smoker Upgrade, Pickup Upgrade, Magnet Upgrade, Feeding Upgrade, Refill Upgrade, Tanks Upgrade, Void Upgrade, Jukebox Upgrade and Lantern Upgrade all install this way.
