Reading the Probe Overlay: What Each Probe Setup Does

The Core Function

Every probe item in this mod — The One Probe, The One Probe (Bauble), and the three probe helmets — provides the same overlay: point at a block or entity and information about it appears on screen. The overlay is passive, so once the item is in your inventory, equipped in a bauble slot, or worn as a helmet, it works without any keybind to activate.

Matching the Item to the Slot

• The One Probe: keep it anywhere in your inventory for the overlay.
• The One Probe (Bauble): equip it in a bauble slot to free your inventory and helmet slot.
• Iron Helmet with Probe, Golden Helmet with Probe, Diamond Helmet with Probe: wear as your helmet; the probe runs while the helmet is equipped.

Crafting Order That Works

Start by crafting The One Probe with its shaped recipe. From there, branch: craft The One Probe (Bauble) if you use bauble slots, or craft a probe helmet using the theoneprobe:probe_helmet recipe with your chosen base helmet. Because each helmet recipe consumes a base helmet, decide your armor tier first. If you only want the overlay and do not care about slots, the plain The One Probe is enough and requires no further crafting.
