How to Filter and Control Item Flow

Choose the right filter

Three filters exist: Item Filter, Tag Item Filter, and Polymorphic Item Filter. Use Item Filter when you want to allow or block specific items by name. Use Tag Item Filter when you want to match whole item tags, so every item sharing a tag is handled together. Use Polymorphic Item Filter when a single filter needs to stand in for several item types at once. Place the filter on the connection you want to control.

Route items with hoppers and crates

A Basic Inventory Hopper moves items between the network and a container. An Open Crate accepts items dropped into it and feeds them to the network. Put a filter on the hopper or crate connection to decide what is allowed through. This lets you keep a sorting chest fed with only one category while everything else stays in bulk storage.

Trigger actions with the Level Emitter

A Level Emitter watches how much of a chosen item the network holds. Set a threshold, and the emitter outputs a redstone signal when the count crosses it. Wire that signal to a machine, a hopper, or a door to automate production and shutoff. Combine a Level Emitter with a filtered Basic Inventory Hopper so that, for example, a farm stops feeding the network once stock reaches your target. Use the Inventory Configurator to adjust the connection the emitter reads from.
