Scaffolding With Wooden Poles

Wooden Poles are the cheapest of the four because they are crafted from wooden planks. Use them to build temporary vertical access: place a column of Wooden Poles next to a wall, climb or build alongside it, then break the column when you are done. Because each pole is a full block, the column is stable and easy to extend one block at a time.

Decorative Posts With Iron, Redstone, and Glass Poles

When a build is finished, replace temporary Wooden Poles with a material that matches the design:

• Iron Pole for structural-looking posts on industrial or fortress builds.
• Redstone Pole for red-toned accents near redstone contraptions.
• Glass Pole for transparent posts that let light through or preserve sightlines.

All three are crafted with the same vertical shaped recipe as the Wooden Pole, just with iron ingots, redstone dust, or glass blocks respectively.

Combining Poles in One Structure

You can stack different pole types in a single column. A common pattern is Wooden Pole at the base for a natural look, Iron Pole in the middle for structure, and Glass Pole at the top for a light finish. Swap any segment later by breaking that block and placing a different pole in the same space. No special tool is required beyond what you would use for the base material.
