Crafting and Using Gears in Tinkers' Reforged

What Gears Are For

Every metal in the mod has a Gear form: Actinium Gear, Astatine Gear, Barium Gear, Berkelium Gear, Germanium Gear, Graphite Gear, Slimebronze Gear, Tellurium Gear, Thallium Gear, and Yttrium Gear. Gears are the intermediate component you need when a recipe calls for a mechanical part rather than a plain ingot.

Making a Gear

Gears are produced through the mod's crafting recipes. The exact grid is shown in the Reforging Guide, so open it before you start placing items. In general you will convert ingots of the matching metal into a Gear of that same metal — Barium Ingot becomes Barium Gear, Yttrium Ingot becomes Yttrium Gear, and so on. Do not mix metals; each Gear recipe uses only its own material.

Planning Your Gear Production

Because there are ten Gear types, decide which metal you actually need before crafting. If you are building a component that lists a specific Gear, smelt enough ingots of that metal first. For the ore-derived metals (Barium, Thallium, Yttrium), smelt Raw Barium, Raw Thallium, or Raw Yttrium into ingots, then craft the Gear.

Storage Tip

Gears do not have a block form, so store them in chests or shulker boxes. Keep them separated by metal type — a chest row per metal makes it easy to grab the right Gear when a recipe demands it. If you run low, check the Reforging Guide for the exact ingot count each Gear consumes.
