Growing and Using Mushrooms: Spores to Stew

Get the Spores

Five spore types exist: Glowstone Mushroom Spores, Gunpowder Mushroom Spores, Redstone Mushroom Spores, Slime Mushroom Spores, and the standard mushroom line used in Cooked Mushroom. Each spore type grows into a mushroom tied to its material.

Plant and Harvest

Place spores on Phytosoil the same way you plant other crops. Water with a Watering Can to speed them up. Harvest when mature. Glowstone, Redstone, Gunpowder, and Slime mushrooms are the resource-producing ones; the plain mushrooms feed cooking.

Cook What You Harvest

Cooked Mushroom comes from smelting, smoking, or campfire-cooking a mushroom. Use it in Hearty Stew or Xp Stew alongside other farm produce. Xp Stew is the standout because it grants experience when eaten, so keep a stack of cooked mushrooms on hand for it.

Plan a Mushroom Corner

Dedicate a shaded patch of Phytosoil to mushrooms so they do not compete with your grain rows. Rotate harvests: cook plain mushrooms for stews, and save Glowstone, Redstone, Gunpowder, and Slime mushrooms for their respective uses. A small dedicated patch produces more than enough for steady stew crafting.
