Tell Happy Ghasts and Nether Ghasts Apart by Sight
Visual Differences
The Tears & Cheers resource pack gives each ghast type a distinct appearance so you can identify them instantly in the Nether or Overworld.
Happy Ghasts have a cheerful expression with eyes positioned lower and spread wider across their face. They display a slight blue tint to their skin, reflecting their preference for wet environments. Their faces are smooth and free of tear marks, giving them a content, peaceful look.
Nether Ghasts appear sad and depressed, with visible tear marks streaking their faces. Their skin looks dry and wrinkled from exposure to the hot lava-filled Nether environment. The same eye repositioning applies, but the overall mood conveyed is one of distress.
Spotting Them in the World
When exploring, scan the sky for the blue-tinted ghasts—these are Happy Ghasts and generally less aggressive. The darker, tear-marked ghasts are standard Nether Ghasts and pose the typical threat. The color difference alone makes quick identification possible even from a distance, helping you decide whether to engage or retreat.
