Upgrading Tanks with the tanknull:upgrade Recipe

How Tank Progression Works

Tanks run from Tank 1 through Tank 7. Only Tank 1 comes from a crafting_shaped recipe. Every step above it uses the tanknull:upgrade recipe type, which converts one Tank into the next tier. There are six upgrade recipes, matching the six steps from Tank 1 to Tank 7.

Performing an Upgrade

Take the Tank you currently own and apply the tanknull:upgrade recipe for the next tier. The result is the next Tank in the line — Tank 1 becomes Tank 2, Tank 2 becomes Tank 3, and so on up to Tank 7.

Because each upgrade consumes the lower Tank, you keep a single Tank and push it upward instead of hoarding duplicates. Plan your materials around the upgrade ingredients rather than around a fresh shaped recipe each time.

If you already installed a Tank in the Dock, remove it before upgrading so you are working with the item and not the installed copy. After the upgrade, place the higher Tank back into the Dock to keep your storage running at the new tier.
