How to Craft a Chess Timer

What the Chess Timer Does

A Chess Timer is a separate block from the Chess Board. Craft it when you want timed games rather than untimed play. It comes in the same material families as the boards: wood types and colored concrete or terracotta.

Crafting a Wooden Chess Timer

1. Pick a wood type — Acacia, Bamboo, Birch, Cherry, Crimson, Dark Oak, Jungle, Mangrove, or Oak.

2. Use the matching planks in a shaped crafting recipe on a 3x3 grid.

3. Collect the finished Chess Timer, for example an Oak Chess Timer or a Dark Oak Chess Timer.

Crafting a Colored Chess Timer

Colored timers use Concrete or Terracotta variants. Choose a color such as Black, Blue, Brown, Cyan, Gray, Green, Light Blue, Light Gray, Lime, Magenta, Orange, Pink, or Purple. Craft the matching Chess Timer, for example a Black Concrete Chess Timer or a Lime Terracotta Chess Timer.

Placing the Timer

Place the Chess Timer next to your Chess Board so both players can reach it. Keep the area clear — the timer is a block and needs adjacent space to be usable.

Pairing With a Board

Match the timer's material to the board's material for a consistent look. An Oak Chess Board pairs with an Oak Chess Timer; a Blue Concrete Chess Board pairs with a Blue Concrete Chess Timer. Both are crafted separately, so make one of each.
