Making Maki, Nigiri and Temaki Rolls

Rice and Nori First

Every roll starts with Cooked Rice from the Rice Cooker. Maki and Temaki also require Nori Sheets as the wrap. Prepare both in advance so you are not stopping mid-roll to cook more rice.

Nigiri skips the Nori and uses a single topping pressed onto a rice base. Maki uses Nori with rice and filling rolled together. Temaki is a hand-roll style using Nori with rice and filling.

Filling Combinations

Use the Roller to combine Cooked Rice with your chosen filling. Supported fillings include Salmon, Tuna, Crab, Cucumber, Avocado, Imitation Crab, and Shrimp. This gives you rolls such as Salmon Maki, Tuna Maki, Cucumber Maki, Crab Maki, Avocado Maki, Salmon Nigiri, Tuna Nigiri, Shrimp Nigiri, Salmon Temaki, Tuna Temaki, Chicken Temaki and Shrimp Temaki.

California-style rolls layer multiple fillings. Crab California, Crab Cheese California and Crab Cucumber California combine Crab with Cheese or Cucumber. The same pattern exists for Salmon and Tuna, and Tobiko versions add Tobiko on top for Tobiko Crab California, Tobiko Salmon California and Tobiko Tuna California, plus their Cheese and Cucumber variants.

Gunkan uses a Nori cup topped with loose ingredients: Salmon Gunkan, Tuna Gunkan and Wakame Gunkan. Keep Nori Sheets stocked — most of these recipes consume them.
