How to Grow and Harvest Rice for Sushi

Craft Rice Seeds into farmland-ready crops by planting them on hydrated farmland near water, the same way you handle wheat. Rice Seeds are a distinct seed item from Cucumber Seeds, Soy Seeds, Sesame Seeds and Wasabi Seeds, so keep your plots separated if you want clean harvests.

Once planted, let the crop mature fully before breaking it. Harvesting gives you Rice, the base grain behind nearly every roll in the mod. Do not eat your Rice raw — it is an ingredient, not a snack.

Turning Rice into Cooked Rice

Raw Rice must be processed before it becomes edible sushi components. Build a Rice Cooker and use it to convert Rice into Cooked Rice. Cooked Rice is the foundation for Onigiri and for the rice layer inside Maki, Nigiri and Temaki.

If you are short on Rice Cooker materials, keep farming Rice Seeds in bulk first. A single harvest rarely covers a full sushi session, so plant a wide patch and replant immediately after each harvest to keep a steady supply. Store spare Rice in a Cooler Box alongside your fish so your ingredients stay organized in one place.
