Trust the Automatic Protection

During combat, you don't need to do anything special. The crewmate totem works passively—when a mob or environmental hazard deals enough damage to kill you, the totem activates automatically. You'll see the Among Us spaceman graphic display, and you'll be restored to health with temporary resistance and fire resistance effects.

This gives you precious seconds to escape, heal, or reposition. The resource pack doesn't change how the totem functions mechanically; it only replaces the visual sprite with the funny crewmate character. Focus on your combat strategy and let your equipped totem handle the rest.
