Getting Started

Tortoise Spawn Egg places a tortoise. Tortoises lay Tortoise Egg blocks. Collect the eggs and place them where you want hatchlings to appear. Keep the area safe, since eggs sit as blocks until they hatch.

Tortoise Scutes and Shells

Tortoises produce Tortoise Scute. Scutes are the key material for tortoise crafting. Combine scutes to make a Tortoise Shell. The shell is a wearable or craftable component depending on how you use it in your recipes.

Practical Setup

1. Place Tortoise Egg blocks on solid ground.

3. Let tortoises mature and collect Tortoise Scute as it drops.

4. Craft Tortoise Shell from scutes.

Keep tortoises enclosed so they do not wander into danger. If you want a steady supply, maintain several adults at once so scute production continues. Eggs are blocks, so they can be moved with a pickaxe-like break and replaced elsewhere. Build a pen with a roof or fence to protect both eggs and hatchlings from hostile mobs.
