How to Mine Ore from Basalt, Blackstone, and Terracotta

Ore variants you will encounter

Underground you will find ore blocks embedded in unusual host stones. The full set includes Basalt Coal Ore, Basalt Diamond Ore, Basalt Emerald Ore, Basalt Gold Ore, Basalt Iron Ore, Basalt Lapis Ore, and Basalt Redstone Ore, plus the matching Blackstone versions and the Brown Terracotta and Light Gray Terracotta versions of each ore. Every host stone carries the same seven ore types.

Mining them

Use the correct pickaxe tier for each ore. Coal, Iron, Lapis, and Redstone ores need at least a stone pickaxe; Gold, Diamond, and Emerald ores need at least an iron pickaxe. Mine the ore block directly to receive the usual drop — for example, Basalt Diamond Ore yields a diamond, and Basalt Redstone Ore yields redstone dust. Fortune and Silk Touch behave as they do on overworld ores.

Planning your trip

Because the same ore appears in several host stones, do not skip a vein just because it is embedded in Blackstone or Brown Terracotta. Carry spare pickaxes and a light source, and mark veins you cannot yet mine so you can return with a better pickaxe.
