How to Build with Speleothem Blocks

The speleothem family

Speleothem blocks come in several stone types: Andesite Speleothem, Basalt Speleothem, Blackstone Speleothem, Diorite Speleothem, Granite Speleothem, and Obsidian Speleothem. Each also has a Frozen variant — Frozen Andesite Speleothem, Frozen Basalt Speleothem, Frozen Blackstone Speleothem, Frozen Diorite Speleothem, Frozen Granite Speleothem, Frozen Obsidian Speleothem, Frozen Red Sandstone Speleothem, Frozen Sandstone Speleothem, and Frozen Stone Speleothem.

Gathering them

Mine speleothem blocks where they generate on cave floors and walls. Collect both the plain and Frozen versions so you can mix warm and cold palettes in one build. Bring a pickaxe that can handle the host stone; Obsidian Speleothem in particular needs a diamond pickaxe.

Building tips

Use speleothem blocks as vertical accents to mimic stalagmites and stalactites in a constructed cave. Stack Andesite Speleothem and Diorite Speleothem for a grey cluster, or Basalt Speleothem and Blackstone Speleothem for a darker one. Frozen variants work well in ice-themed rooms alongside Ice Patch and Icicle. Alternate plain and Frozen speleothem along a tunnel wall to suggest a temperature gradient.
