Staff of Building Progression: Wooden to Infinite

Early Game: Wooden and Stone

Start with the Wooden Staff of Building. It is the cheapest shaped crafting recipe and lets you place blocks quickly while you gather resources. Once you have cobblestone or stone, craft the Stone Staff of Building to replace it. Both are made at a crafting table using the pattern shown in your recipe book.

Mid Game: Iron, Gold, and Diamond

Move up to the Iron Staff of Building when you have spare iron ingots. The Golden Staff of Building is the next shaped recipe, using gold ingots. The Diamond Staff of Building is the strongest crafting-table staff and the one you will want before attempting the netherite upgrade. Craft each tier as soon as you have the materials, because every step up gives you a better staff without changing how you use it.

Late Game: Netherite and Infinite

The Netherite Staff of Building is made with a smithing recipe: take your Diamond Staff of Building, a netherite ingot, and the required smithing template to a smithing table. The Infinite Staff of Building is the final goal. It is produced through the mod's crafting recipes and is the staff you keep permanently. Work toward it after you have the Netherite Staff of Building so you always have a strong staff in hand while gathering the remaining ingredients.
