How to Craft Every Staff of Building

Crafting the Basic Staves

All six staves are made through the crafting_shaped recipe type, so you can build them at any crafting table. The material you use determines which staff you get:

• Wooden Staff of Building — craft from wood planks.
• Stone Staff of Building — craft from cobblestone or stone.
• Iron Staff of Building — craft from iron ingots.
• Golden Staff of Building — craft from gold ingots.
• Diamond Staff of Building — craft from diamonds.

The recipe shape is consistent across these five, so once you know the layout for one, you can swap the material to produce the next tier. Start with the Wooden Staff of Building if you are early in a world, then upgrade as your materials improve.

Upgrading to Netherite

The Netherite Staff of Building is the only staff that does not use a crafting_shaped recipe. It is produced through the smithing recipe type. Take your Diamond Staff of Building to a smithing table and combine it with a netherite ingot to obtain the Netherite Staff of Building.

Because the smithing recipe consumes the diamond staff, do not craft a second Diamond Staff of Building just for the upgrade — use the one you already have. Once the smithing step is complete, the Diamond Staff of Building is replaced by the Netherite Staff of Building in your inventory.
