Observing and Predicting Blood Moon Events
Understand the Lunar Cycle
The shader includes a complete moon cycle that progresses each night. Blood Moons are rare events that occur randomly during this cycle, appearing as a dark red moon in the night sky instead of the normal white or gray phases.
Track Moon Phases
Watch the moon each night to familiarize yourself with the cycle progression. Take note of when Blood Moons occur—they're uncommon enough to be special events but frequent enough to witness multiple times during extended play. The cycle is purely visual and doesn't affect gameplay mechanics.
Best Viewing Conditions
For the clearest view of Blood Moons and normal moon phases, position yourself in an open area with minimal light pollution from torches or other light sources. High elevations or ocean biomes provide unobstructed sky views. Avoid looking during rain, as weather obscures the sky.
Combine with Other Effects
Blood Moons pair dramatically with the shader's moody lighting. The dark red hue creates an eerie atmosphere that complements the cinematic mist effects, especially in spooky biomes like swamps or dark forests.
