How to Create and Load a Custom OBJ Model into Your Mod
Preparing Your OBJ File
Before loading a model, ensure your OBJ file is properly formatted. Use a 3D modeling tool (Blender, Maya, or similar) to create or export your model as OBJ format. Include all necessary geometry, normals, and texture coordinates. Keep file sizes reasonable to avoid performance issues during gameplay.
Loading the Model in Your Mod
Place your OBJ file in your mod's resource folder under assets/yourmodid/models/. The Special Model Loader Mod will automatically detect OBJ files in this directory.
In your mod's code, reference the model using the standard Minecraft resource location format: yourmodid:models/yourmodelname. The loader will parse the OBJ data and prepare it for rendering.
Testing Your Model
Launch your modpack and spawn an item or block that uses your custom model. If the model doesn't appear, verify:
- File path matches your resource location exactly
- OBJ syntax is valid (no corrupted geometry)
- Normals are calculated correctly in your modeling tool
The mod handles rendering automatically once loaded—no custom render code needed.
