How to Craft a Soul Shard

Gather the Ingredients

A Soul Shard is the core item you will use to capture mob souls. To make one, you need Corrupted Essence and Vile Dust. Both are obtained by killing mobs while the mod is active; the drops appear as items you can pick up. Collect a small stack of each before you start.

Craft the Soul Shard

Open a crafting table and combine your Corrupted Essence with Vile Dust. The recipe is a crafting recipe, so it fits in the standard 3x3 grid. Once crafted, the Soul Shard sits in your inventory as a reusable item.

If you do not yet have enough materials, keep killing hostile mobs until Corrupted Essence and Vile Dust drop. Do not smelt these items; they are used directly in the crafting grid.

What the Soul Shard Does

The Soul Shard stores the souls of mobs you kill. Carry it while fighting so it can absorb souls. Later, you will place it into a Soul Cage to spawn those mobs automatically. Craft the shard first, then build a Soul Cage around it.
