Troubleshoot SMAA Not Appearing or Causing Visual Issues
Shader Won't Load or Doesn't Appear in the List
1. Verify Iris is installed: SMAA requires Iris to function. Check your mods folder to confirm it's present
2. Check the file location: The shader file must be in .minecraft/shaderpacks/ (or the equivalent on your system)
3. Restart Minecraft completely after adding the shader file
4. Ensure correct file format: The shader should be a .zip file; don't extract it
Visual Glitches or Artifacts
If you see strange lines, flickering, or color shifts:
- Update your graphics drivers (NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel)
- Lower your render distance temporarily to isolate the issue
- Disable other shader packs if you have multiple installed
- Check for mod conflicts: Disable other visual mods (like Optifine or competing shaders) and test SMAA alone
Performance Drops or Stuttering
1. Close resource-heavy applications
2. Allocate more RAM to Minecraft
3. Reduce render distance or graphics quality settings
If problems persist after these steps, your hardware may struggle with even lightweight shaders. Try vanilla Minecraft to confirm your baseline performance.
