Reduce Lag or Improve Performance with SMAA

Why SMAA Is Already Lightweight

SMAA MC Shaders is specifically designed to run on older and low-end computers. Unlike complex shader packs with realistic lighting or reflections, SMAA only sharpens edges—it does minimal processing per frame.

If You're Still Experiencing Lag

1. Lower your render distance in Video Settings (this affects all shaders equally)

2. Reduce your graphics settings: Set Clouds to Fast, Particles to Minimal, and Smooth Lighting to Low

3. Close background applications that consume CPU or GPU resources

4. Update your graphics drivers to ensure Iris and the shader run efficiently

5. Check your Java allocation: Give Minecraft more RAM if you have it available (usually 4–6 GB is sufficient)

Confirm the Shader Isn't the Problem

Disable SMAA temporarily by switching to "None" in the Shaders menu. If your FPS improves significantly, the shader may not be compatible with your hardware—though this is rare. If performance stays the same, your lag comes from other settings or your system's overall capacity.

SMAA should add minimal frame loss on any system that can run vanilla Minecraft smoothly.
