How to Craft a Paper Lantern in Any Color

Paper Lanterns come in every dye color: Black Paper Lantern, Blue Paper Lantern, Brown Paper Lantern, Cyan Paper Lantern, Gray Paper Lantern, Green Paper Lantern, Light Blue Paper Lantern, Light Gray Paper Lantern, Lime Paper Lantern, Magenta Paper Lantern, Orange Paper Lantern, Pink Paper Lantern, Purple Paper Lantern, Red Paper Lantern, and their Soul Lantern counterparts. Each color also has a Paper Soul Lantern version that uses soul fire instead of regular fire.

Crafting Steps

Paper Lanterns are made with a shapeless recipe, so ingredient position in the grid does not matter. Combine a Lantern with the dye color you want to produce the matching Paper Lantern. To get the soul variant, use a Soul Lantern with the same dye instead. Because the recipe is shapeless, you can drop the ingredients anywhere in the crafting grid.

Practical Use

Place Paper Lanterns along paths, under overhangs, or inside builds where you want a soft colored glow. The Soul Lantern versions give the same shape with a cooler blue flame, useful for spooky or underwater-themed builds. If you already have a stack of plain Lanterns, dyeing them is the fastest way to fill a large build with matching light. Keep a few of each color on hand so you can swap them out without re-crafting from scratch.
