Obtaining and Using Empowered Remnants for Upgrades
The 
Empowered Remnant is the cornerstone crafting component in Simply Swords required to forge Runefused Gems, Netherfused Gems, and Contained Remnants.
How to Acquire Empowered Remnants
Unlike basic materials such as iron or diamonds, Empowered Remnants cannot be mined from ore blocks or crafted from raw ingots. They are obtained exclusively by smelting unique weapons or magical gems inside a furnace, blast furnace, or smoker.
Smelting Unique Weapons
Every unique weapon added by Simply Swords can be recycled in a furnace. Smelting any unique blade produces exactly one Empowered Remnant. Eligible weapons include:

Smelting Forged Gems
If you have surplus magical gems from previous upgrades, they can also be melted down:
- Smelting 1
Runefused Gem yields 1 Empowered Remnant. - Smelting 1 Netherfused Gem yields 1 Empowered Remnant.
Core Progression Recipes Using Empowered Remnants
Once you have gathered Empowered Remnants, they serve as the primary catalyst in several high-tier crafting and smithing recipes:
1. Smithing the Runefused Gem
To forge a Runefused Gem, place the following three items into a Smithing Table:
- Template slot:
Runic Tablet - Base item slot: Empowered Remnant
- Addition slot: Crying Obsidian
Result: 1 Runefused Gem. Runefused gems are essential for rerolling runic weapon attributes and crafting specialty armaments.
2. Smithing the Netherfused Gem
To forge the apex Netherfused Gem, place the following materials into a Smithing Table:
- Template slot: Runic Tablet
- Base item slot: Empowered Remnant
- Addition slot: Netherite Ingot
Result: 1 Netherfused Gem. This gem represents the highest tier of enchantment material in Simply Swords, granting pinnacle stats when applied to Netherite-tier armaments.
3. Crafting the Contained Remnant
To assemble a Contained Remnant on a standard three-by-three crafting table:
- Top row: Iron Ingot, Empowered Remnant, Iron Ingot
- Middle row: Glass, Empowered Remnant, Glass
- Bottom row: Iron Ingot, Empowered Remnant, Iron Ingot
Result: 1 Contained Remnant. This stabilizes three remnants inside an iron and glass housing for safe storage and construction.
Storage and Armory Management
Because each Empowered Remnant represents a conquered dungeon or looted ruin, handle them carefully:
- Store remnants in secure chests near your primary smithing station.
- Prioritize crafting Netherfused Gems to empower your primary combat gear before rerolling secondary blades.
- Remember that damaged unique weapons yield the same full remnant as pristine weapons, so always wield relics before recycling them.
- Automating your furnace output using a hopper guarantees that no smelted remnants despawn or remain trapped inside hot furnaces.
