How to Tame a Cat with Catnip and Catnip Seeds

Craft Catnip Seeds and plant them on farmland. When the Catnip block matures, harvest it. Catnip is the item you use to approach and tame a wild cat.

Taming Steps

1. Hold Catnip in your main hand.

2. Approach a wild cat slowly and right-click it with the Catnip.

3. Repeat right-clicking until hearts appear, which means the cat is tamed.

4. Once tamed, the cat follows you and can be told to sit.

If you run low on Catnip, replant Catnip Seeds so you always have a supply on hand. Tamed cats can be picked up and moved using a Pet Carrier.

After Taming

Give your tamed cat a place to live. Place a Tree Bed, a Tree Box, and a Tree Post nearby so it has somewhere to sleep, scratch, and perch. Fill a Cat Bowl with food and set down a Litter Box so the cat stays cared for. Use a Cat Book to review your cat's needs, and a Treat Bag to reward good behavior. If you want to rename or manage ownership, use an Adoption Certificate or Release Certificate as appropriate.
